Konsole 2 is a free and open source text editor app developed by Bastian Eicher for Windows. It's pretty customizable.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of Konsole 2 to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this text editing program.
A console, notepad and calculator
Konsole 2 is an application package which consists of 3 sub programs: Konsole, Typer and GeoCalc.
Konsole is an everyday-tool with a memo-function (with encryption), a file manager that can swap the content of two different files, a Tray-Symbol and a lot more.
Features of Konsole 2
- Automatically shut down your computer or cut the Internet connection after a certain amount of time.
- Automatically swap your desktop wallpaper on every logon.
- Be controlled in the classic DOS-look.
- Synchronize your system clock with a Time-Server via the Internet.
Compatibility and License
Konsole 2 has been released under the open source GPL license on Windows from text editors. The license provides the options to freely download, install, run and share this program without any restrictions. The source code for Konsole 2 should be freely available and modifications are certainly permitted as well as the option to inspect the software.
What version of Windows can Konsole 2 run on?
Konsole 2 can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems with no dedicated 64-bit download provided.
